【Delicious honey from the Japanese honey bee of Weekend Honey Beekeeper】
Mr.S produces honey from the Japanese honey bee in the mountain village in Tamba,Kyoto. It is very rare to produce honey from the Japanese honey bee. Mr.S has been breeding Japanese honey bee for about ten years. Usually honey is made from the western honey bee which came to Japan in the Meiji era. There were Japanese honey bees but they are easy to run away and are said hard to breed. But Mr.S continued trial and error for about ten years and realized the stable way to breed them.
Japanese honey bees can not beat the western honey bees in the number of producing. But they are strong for disease or vermin,and have a merit that we don’t have to use antibiotics or disinfection for the hives. Mr.S thought “I want to make delicious and safe honey by my own hands!” and decides to use the Japanese honey bee instead of the western honey bee which is hard to breed. Of course they are organic and well bred.
